NOTICE FOR 2011

NC 194 will be ONE WAY ONLY from Banner Elk to Valle Crucis on Fair Day. Guests wishing to drive to Banner Elk after departing the Fair will be sent via Broadstone Road to NC 105 and then south to NC 184 (Tynecastle Highway) where they turn right and drive 4.3 miles into Banner Elk.

Clark's Creek Road will be ONE WAY ONLY from Foscoe to Valle Crucis on Fair Day. Guests wishing to drive to Foscoe after departing the Fair will be sent to via Broadstone Road to NC 105 and then south to Foscoe.

From Boone, NC:    

From the intersection of NC 105 and US 321 (Wendy's on southwest corner), travel 4.8 miles south on NC 105 to the stoplight immediately south of the Watauga River Bridge. Turn RIGHT on Broadstone Road (SR 1112) and go 2.8 miles to NC 194 (at the Valle Crucis Elementary School). Turn LEFT and travel 1 mi.on NC 194 to the Fair entrance. Turn LEFT into the fair, where parking attendants will assist you.


From Linville, NC:    

Scenic Route (This route will have less congestion and will take you past half a dozen mountain churches.):

Take NC 105 9.1 mi. north to Foscoe. Turn LEFT on Clark's Creek Road across from British Antique Imports. Go 2.3 miles until you reach the stop sign just past the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Turn RIGHT and travel 1.4 mi. to NC 194. Turn LEFT and drive 0.4 mi. to the Fair entrance. Turn LEFT into the Fair, where parking attendants will assist you.

This country road winds through the woods as it climbs the hill and opens up into rolling meadows after it crests the ridge. In addition to taking you past beautiful scenery and a number of little country churches, this route allows you to skip the stoplight on NC 105 at Broadstone Road, the one place where Fair traffic can clog up and cause an extended wait.

Second Option: (This is the most direct route to Valle Crucis, but on Fair day it is not always the quickest. Traffic is known to clog up at the stoplight on NC 105 where you turn onto Broadstone Road. When this happens, there can be an extended wait.)

From Linville, take NC 105 12.3 miles north to the stoplight at the Watauga River Bridge. Turn LEFT on Broadstone Road (SR 1112) and go 2.8 miles to the intersection of NC 194 (immediately past the Mast Store Annex). Turn LEFT on NC 194 and travel 1 mi. to the Fair entrance. Turn LEFT into the Fair, where parking attendants will assist you.


From Banner Elk, NC:    

Turn RIGHT at the Banner Elk stoplight and take NC 194 north 6.2 miles to Valle Crucis. Turn RIGHT into the fair, where parking attendants will assist you.

In 2011 the DOT is widening NC 194 between Banner Elk and Valle Crucis that includes a stop for one-lane traffic. We recommend that you take an alternate route to Valle Crucis.

Alternate Route: Take NC 184 (Tynecastle Highway) 4.3 miles east to its intersection with NC 105. Turn LEFT and go 5 miles north to Foscoe. Turn LEFT on Clark's Creek Road across from British Antique Imports. Go 2.3 miles until you reach the stop sign just past the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Turn RIGHT and travel 1.4 mi. to NC 194. Turn LEFT and drive 0.4 mi. to the Fair entrance. Turn LEFT into the Fair, where parking attendants will assist you.


From Winston Salem, NC:  

Take US 421 North 85 miles to Boone.

Take the 3rd LEFT onto NC-105-Ext/US-221. (You will recognize this intersection as the place where the green overhead traffic sign has arrows pointing left toward Blowing Rock.)

Continue 0.8 miles on NC 105 Extension, straight through the traffic light at the intersection of US 321 and NC 105 (see Wendy's on the southwest corner). From the intersection of NC 105 and US 321, travel 4.8 miles south on NC 105 to the stoplight immediately south of the Watauga River Bridge.

Turn RIGHT on Broadstone Road (SR 1112) and go 2.8 miles to NC 194 (at the Valle Crucis Elementary School). Turn LEFT and travel 1 mi.on NC 194 to the Fair entrance. Turn LEFT into the fair, where parking attendants will assist you.


From Asheville, NC:    

Take I-40 East to Exit 85 at Marion, NC. At the bottom of the ramp, turn LEFT and go one mile to a stoplight. Turn LEFT onto US 221 North and travel 30 miles to Linville, NC.

From Johnson City, TN:   

Take US 321 through Elizabethton to Hampton, TN.

(Option 1 - takes you through Newland, NC)

In Hampton, bear RIGHT on US 19-E through Roan Mountain to Elk Park, NC. Stay straight on NC 194 to Newland, NC. At the second stoplight, turn LEFT onto NC 181 and go 5 miles to Linville. At the stoplight, turn LEFT onto NC 105 and go 9.1 mi. north to Foscoe. Turn LEFT on Clark's Creek Road across from British Antique Imports. Go 2.3 miles until you reach the stop sign just past the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Turn RIGHT and travel 1.4 mi. to NC 194. Turn LEFT and drive 0.4 mi. to the Fair entrance. Turn LEFT into the Fair, where parking attendants will assist you.

(Option 2 - takes you toward Boone, NC)

In Hampton, bear LEFT on US 321 and wind along past Lake Watauga toward Boone, NC.

Travel 25 on US 321. In Sugar Grove you will turn RIGHT onto US-321/US-421. Travel 3.5 miles and turn RIGHT at the stoplight onto NC 105 Bypass. Travel 2 miles to a stoplight and turn RIGHT onto NC 105 south. Travel 4.8 miles south on NC 105 to the stoplight immediately south of the Watauga River Bridge.

Turn RIGHT on Broadstone Road (SR 1112) and go 2.8 miles to NC 194 (at the Valle Crucis Elementary School). Turn LEFT and travel 1 mi.on NC 194 to the Fair entrance. Turn LEFT into the fair, where parking attendants will assist you.


From Charlotte, NC:   

If you are on the West side of Charlotte, closest to Gastonia:

Take I-85 South to Gastonia, NC. Pick up US 321 North through Blowing Rock to Boone. Turn LEFT at the intersection of US 321 and NC 105 (look for Wendy's on the southwest corner).

If you are on the North side of Charlotte, closest to Statesville:

Take I-77 North to Statesville, NC, and then take I-40 West to Exit 23B in Hickory, NC. Pick up US 321 North through Blowing Rock to Boone. Turn LEFT at the intersection of US 321 and NC 105 (look for Wendy's on the southwest corner).

From the Wendy's intersection at NC 105 and US 321, travel 4.8 miles south on NC 105 to the stoplight immediately south of the Watauga River Bridge.

Turn RIGHT on Broadstone Road (SR 1112) and go 2.8 miles to NC 194 (at the Valle Crucis Elementary School). Turn LEFT and travel 1 mi.on NC 194 to the Fair entrance. Turn LEFT into the fair, where parking attendants will assist you.
